What's wrong with this picture?
I'm taking a break from all that's much more serious, to get this off my chest:
Here’s a short post about something that’s bugged me for a long time now. Years in fact. I think it was Michele Obama who started the whole bare-arms thing. Ever since she was First Lady, just about every female American news anchor has complied with that weird, copy-cat dress code.
It’s not even just the arms—look at how much skin she’s made to show versus how completely covered up the guys are. And how that skimpy dress forces her to sit so primly—don’t even mention the required stiletto heels—while the male bodies are relaxed, warm and cozy in sleeves, pants, shirts, jackets— so layers even— and socks with flat shoes.
It’s really ridiculous. But par for the course in a culture saturated with sexualizing the female body. Hairstyles, too are entirely unprofessional—nearly always long and wavy and blonde, cascading seductively over the shoulders. Dressed for the cocktail party, not for dishing out the daily news.
Anyway, I just wanted to get that out there, because in all these years I’ve not seen anyone acknowledge the great disparity in TV news clothing standards.
Your comments for or against my point of view, are of course welcome!
It is extremely unprofessional for a woman to be showing bare arms and bare legs with a short skirt when surrounded by male colleagues wearing suits.
Another pet peeve I have is women who show cleavage at work.
...same women who will complain about men who look at their boobs.
Can you spell B-I-M-B-O?
Agree!! Even if a woman is very fit and has nice arms, it's still wrong.
